Happy Birthday Turner!

We went out to dinner on Wednesday night and Annie had been pretty stressed about being induced, as she really wanted things to go naturally. She ate a chili pepper and on the advice of the midwife (don't tell) had a glass of wine before bed to relax. It might just have been time or the wine might have done the trick but we were up at 2:40 the next morning in labor.

"Early" labor was non-existent as the contractions came quickly and strong from the start. We labored at home - Brian timing contractions, holding Annie's hand and being a major hero for about 12 hours until 3pm when we decided to head to the hospital.

At 4:00 we checked into the ER and Annie got hooked up to the monitor. Bean was doing well and Annie was 1/2 way there at 5cm. With everyone's support (Thanks Deb, Jane, Jordan and all the staff) we got Annie in the tub where she labored through transition for a few hours. About 8pm she felt the urge and the pushing started...and kept going and going! Turner, contrary to his name, did not turn and was in posterior position, making it very difficult to pass through the bones of the pelvis. It is not an ideal position for childbirth, and usually posterior babies are
delivered via c-section.

Everyone just kept encouraging us and we kept going (actually not really understanding the posterior position until after) and we tried all sorts of positions for pushing. Finally Annie started to make some progress and after 3 hours of pushing Turner was born at 11:08pm. It was amazing for us all.

Turner had a major cone head because of the pushing but we (of course) thought he was perfect. He weighted in at 8lbs 7oz and was 21 1/2 inches long.

Welcome Turner!
